Word Family Poems for Shared Reading

Do your kids love poetry as much as mine do? Poetry can be such an engaging way to teach so many reading skills including fluency, rhyme, sight words, tracking print, and more. I just completed this set of 21 word family poems, that will help young readers learn the basic word families in text. I tried to include the most common word families, while still keeping the poems simple enough that they would not overwhelm new readers.

Here are a couple examples from this word family poetry set.
This poem is for the word family ig. After reading the poems whole group, we will highlight all of the words that have ig.

I also created a second version, that will let the kiddos write the missing words "ig" words in the blank. We will do this after practicing the regular version a few days.

This poem practices og. It is very predictable for new readers!
