40 Sight Word Poems for Shared Reading

If you use poetry in your early childhood classroom, you may like this set of 40 sight word poems for shared reading. These poems are simple for new readers, and they match my original set of sight word poems. Students fill in the missing sight word, and then read the simple, predictable poems. These are perfect to align with a sight word curriculum. Most teachers who use these introduce one or two new poems each week to match their sight word of the week. They can be displayed using a projector or written on chart paper for a whole group shared reading experience. After learning the new poem, these can be placed in a poetry notebook for future reading. The kiddos feel extremely proud and confident when they have something they can read.
