Alphabet Introduction Activities

Alphabet Introduction Activities

Are you a kindergarten teacher looking for activities to use to introduce your students to each letter of the alphabet? I created a bundle of alphabet activities to use in a "letter of the week" format! I will simply change the materials each week as I introduce a new letter. The activities are all similar for each letter, which is perfect for developing a routine for young students who need consistency.

Here are some of the activities included for each letter! You can grab the Letter A set here!

Alphabet Poems for Shared Reading

Alphabet Poems for Shared Reading

Alphabet Poems for Shared Reading

My kindergarten team does a lot of shared reading lessons at the beginning of the school year to teach concepts of print, phonemic awareness, word/sentence recognition and so much more. I decided to incorporate shared reading with the alphabet, and to do this I wrote these alphabet poems.
We use these alphabet poems each week as we introduce a new letter. We begin by choral reading the new poem, look at rhyming, punctuation, new words, etc. We then focus on concepts of print. After we have learned the new poem, my kiddos highlight the letter that we are learning throughout the poem. We then place these in our alphabet journal.

I recently added some additional alphabet poem activities to go with each poem. We will use these throughout the week as we are using out alphabet poem of the week.

I also created a pocket chart version of each of the poems. We will assemble the pocket chart poem whole group, and then this will become a part of my pocket chart center. The kids love to see these poems in the center, because they are familiar with the poems and have confidence as they are reading them.

First Day of Kindergarten

First Day of Kindergarten

The first day of school is almost here, and it is very important to have everything ready to go (ESPECIALLY IN KINDERGARTEN) so that your day goes smoothly. For some reason, I always seem to over plan my first day and NEVER get to everything that I had anticipated. Here are a few first day of school activity ideas that I incorporate into my classroom. Enjoy!

The Days Following the First Day

As much as I would like to squeeze everything into the first day of school, I am a realist and it is not happening! Here are a few of the activities that I use after the first day of school. I usually stretch these activities out during the first few weeks.

This is a lot like my school rules pocket chart, but it focuses on bathroom behavior. Oh my....kinders really need multiple lessons on bathroom behavior. We will use this whole group as a daily reminder.

We use this question of the day pocket chart to get to know each other. The first question we use helps us talk about lunch routines. The kiddos place their name beneath lunch from home or school lunch. There are several questions that go with this set. I change the question each morning.

Back to School Basics
This set of activities are perfect for those first few weeks. Your kiddos will practice cutting, number formation, letter formation, color words, and more.
